Apple Butter
Ingredients:
5 lbs assorted apples (granny smith, honeycrisp, fuji, gala, etc.)
3 cups granulated sugar
1-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
3 cups granulated sugar
1-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
Directions:
Peel, core, and cut the apples into 1-inch pieces. Place the apple pieces and 1-1/2 cups sugar in a 6-quart slow cooker and cook on high for 6 hours, stirring every couple of hours so the apples are evenly cooked.
Add the spices and remaining sugar. Cook on low for 4 hours, until apples are very soft. Use a stick blender (or a food processor, or a tabletop blender) to puree until smooth. Cool completely and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month, if it lasts that long!
